Nursing Convent Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe Co Galway

We knew we wanted a Convent, practical and non-institutional; what we got is a magnificent, unique, beautifully designed home, beyond all our expectations.

A Convent Retirement/Nursing Home echoes the richness of the Franciscan traditions of peace and simplicity through the medium of contemporary design.

The introspective courtyard and the modular order of the cells are balanced against rising curved contemporary forms of the Chapel and the Dayroom.

This reinterpretation of the western monastic form was crucial to the resolution of the building and landscape design. Art is integrated throughout as an enrichment of the architectural design.

One of the outstanding features is the Chapel, a focal point and a sacred space for Sisters. Another feature is the inner garden, a quadrangle providing rest for body and mind, and even a little light gardening.
