St Lomans RHU Mullingar

The site is located to the West of the existing St. Loman’s Hospital (formerly the Old Mullingar District Lunatic Asylum), incorporating the existing Acute Mental Health Unit, located in the Former Admissions Hospital. The existing building is a protected structure.

The design responded to the need to develop an open and ‘homely’ atmosphere around two independent units. Small clusters of rooms are arranged off a main circulation route resulting in a more domestic scale. Internal courtyards are designed as extensions of the internal spaces. They are protected and sheltered and will benefit from sunlight due to the single story nature of the design.
