Experience, professionalism and integrity

At OCMA we draw from a vast well of knowledge, accumulated across the generations of our practice, from lifetimes of continuous education and practical experience. For more than 25 years we have demonstrated our commitment to delivering high quality, people-centred buildings in partnership with our clients.

We are proud of our projects, and of our pre-eminent expertise in healthcare architecture, the most rewarding and challenging of sectors, which gives us the opportunity to design for people at their most vulnerable. We believe in the power of architecture to support society, the public and the environment. We believe in the power of architecture to make people feel better.

Our mission

Creating resilient, inclusive, and sustainable spaces for people.

At OCMA, our mission is to lead in creating inclusive, enduring and high-quality architecture, to deliver projects that contribute meaningfully to society, ensuring the buildings and places we design enrich the lives and well-being of all.

We provide design and professional service standards that consistently deliver quality for our clients while advocating for a sustainable and inclusive built environment.

Promoting creativity and professional integrity.

Our values reflect a commitment to excellence and integrity in everything we do. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and collaborative work culture that encourages creativity and professionalism at every step. Our Legacy

Generations of design

O’Connell Mahon Architects was established in 1998 building on the legacy of Brian O’ Connell Associates a practice with a strong healthcare portfolio, the seeds of which go back to Brian’s first job with T.P. Kennedy Architects as clerk of works on the Coombe Hospital in 1966.

The objectives of our founding directors Brian O’Connell and Sean Mahon were to provide the knowledge, skills and experience necessary to deliver quality architecture and establish and maintain durable relationships with clients, colleagues and partners to deliver major projects in the public and private sectors.

Over the years the practice has grown as has the size of the projects we deliver. Through our work on a number of large scale national projects we have developed skills, processes and experience that position us to lead any scale and complexity of work in the healthcare sector.

We have the great fortune to be able to draw from the depth of knowledge accumulated by our highly experienced team many of whom have been working for the practice for over 20 years and the information retained in our unrivalled database of information on healthcare projects from almost 30 years of working on hospital campuses.

Brian O’Connell, our late founder, had over the course of his lengthy career accrued a uniquely broad and profound expertise in the architecture, conservation and legal realms. The breadth of Brian’s knowledge and experience in all aspects of the industry, which he generously shared, and his lifelong dedication to academic excellence has contributed significantly to who OCMA are.  His example has been one that has become the benchmark that we as a practice continually strive for.
