MTU Melbourn Building Deep Retrofit

OCMA were proud to lead an integrated Design team for our clients at MTU in the delivery of a DEEP Retrofit of their Melbourn Building. The project was delivered in conjunction with the HEA/SEAI Pathfinder retrofit projects.

We are delighted to report that the project reached all its project goals i.e.:

1. Reduction of peak heating load to 55w/m2 (achieved 53.2wm2 from 112w/m2 pre works)
2. Reduce cabon emissions by 50% (achieved 51.4% reduction)
3. Achieve B rating BER. (No plant upgrades were carried out under this scheme).

OCMA thoroughly enjoyed the process of learning of this fabric only upgrade as a continuation of our aim towards net zero carbon buildings. It also provided a design opportunity in wrapping the building in a sharp new fibre cement facade.

The projects primary aim was to save operational energy, but a retrofit such as this also prolongs the buildings life thus reducing the buildings embodied carbon over its extended life.
