UHL Campus 96 Bed Ward Extension Opens

October 2025

OCMA is delighted that the recently completed UHL Campus 96 bed ward block extension was officially opened yesterday by Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill. The block provides an additional four storeys of ward accommodation above the existing Emergency and Renal Dialysis Departments.

Patients’ bedrooms are designed to promote a calm, quiet and restful environment, but have all necessary contemporary clinical requirements. Patients and staff have access to natural light, ventilation, and views across Limerick city or to landscaped courtyards, which has been shown to improve patient outcomes and benefit staff wellbeing. Space for family engagement and overnight stays is provided to support patient care.

Not only is the development important from a clinical perspective, but it occupies a prominent location along the St Nessan’s Road boundary, creating a new urban edge and enhancing the identity of the UHL campus.
