This project transformed Hampson House, an office shell within the Clery’s Quarter, into a modern and inclusive maternity outpatient facility for the Rotunda Hospital. By freeing space on the historic campus for critical inpatient care and delivering an all-electric, low-carbon solution, it sets a new benchmark for sustainable urban healthcare design.
The project encompasses 3,700 sqm of refurbished space and delivers a comprehensive range of services, including adult and paediatric outpatient clinics, a colposcopy unit, consultation rooms, clinical support areas, staff welfare facilities, and conference and teaching rooms.
Materials and finishes were chosen to introduce warmth and character, with acoustic timber and coloured ceiling panels reducing noise and adding visual interest. A zoned, colour-coded layout supports intuitive wayfinding, privacy, and operational flow within the constraints of a commercial office setting. Soft, bright colours and tactile surfaces create friendly paediatric areas, while calm, neutral palettes in adult zones foster comfort and emotional safety, ensuring a welcoming, supportive environment for all users.
The project creates a calm, welcoming, and efficient environment that enhances the wellbeing of patients and staff. Through thoughtful spatial planning and material selection, it promotes comfort, privacy, and ease of navigation, fostering a positive healthcare experience within a sustainable, contemporary setting.
